As a reminder, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 Home and Professional on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide software updates, security patches, or technical assistance for these versions.
To prepare for this transition, before October 14, 2025, please audit all computers in your lab to identify any still running Windows 10 Pro. Windows 10 systems must be either:
- Upgraded to Windows 11 Pro
- Replaced with new hardware running Windows 11 Pro.
If you’re unable to upgrade due to technical limitations or corporate policy, please reach out to your local IT team or DVI for assistance in planning the transition.
Important Considerations:
- In-place upgrades will render computers temporarily unusable during the update.
- For data entry workstations, ensure users have access to alternate computers during this time.
- For specialized systems such as a machine interface or combobulator, a workaround is required. This could include:
- Transferring the combobulator to another workstation
- Moving serial functions or redirecting IP devices to a backup machine interface
- DVI can assist with creating a transition plan for these cases.
Notes on Hardware Compatibility:
- Some systems may not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11, which include:
- Minimum 4GB RAM
- At least 64GB of available storage
- A TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) chip on the motherboard
- In such cases, replacement may be the better option. DVI or your IT support team can help evaluate whether to upgrade or replace these machines.
